How Are We Doing?
Between 2010 and 2022, the estimated number of New Jersey residents increased in each of the following groups:
- Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander: 43% increase from approximately 2,500 to 3,500 residents
- Two or More Races: 36% increase from 115,000 to 158,000
- Hispanic: 35% increase from 1.5 million to 2.1 million
- Asian: 31% increase from 737,000 to 969,000
- American Indian/Alaska Native: 13% increase from 12,700 to 14,300
- Black: 6% increase from 1.1 million to 1.2 million
In the same time period, the number of White New Jersey residents decreased 8 percent from 5.2 million to 4.8 million.

Compared to the US as a whole, the population of New Jersey is more racially and ethnically diverse.
