Why Is This Important?

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a cancer of the bone marrow and the blood that progresses rapidly without treatment. AML mostly affects cells that aren't fully developed, leaving these cells unable to carry out their normal functions.

Definition

Incidence rate of acute myeloid leukemia for a defined population in a specified time interval. Rates are age-adjusted to the 2000 U.S. Standard Population. Rates are per 100,000 population.

Numerator:Number of new cases of acute myeloid leukemia among a defined population in a specified time interval.
Denominator:Defined population in a specified time interval.

How Are We Doing?

During 2021, 271 New Jersey males and 252 females of all ages were diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia.

What Is Being Done?
