Why Is This Important?

People living with HIV are more likely than others to become sick with TB. Worldwide, TB is one of the leading causes of death among people living with HIV.^[https://www.cdc.gov/tb/risk-factors/hiv.html 1]^

How the Measure is Calculated

Numerator:Number of tuberculosis cases alive at diagnosis for which HIV status is known
Denominator:Total number of tuberculosis cases alive at diagnosis

How Are We Doing?

The proportion of TB cases with known HIV status has been around 80-85% for several years. The HNJ2020 target of 90% was achieved in 2019 but the rate dropped below the target in 2020.

What Is Being Done?

The [http://www.state.nj.us/health/hivstdtb/tb/ Tuberculosis Control Program] supports TB ambulatory care activities (clinical evaluation, treatment, prevention and epidemiology) at the county, municipal, and institutional level through the provision of health service grant funds, staff, medication, consultation, and education. The program also collaborates closely with the [http://globaltb.njms.rutgers.edu/ New Jersey Medical School's Global TB Institute] at Rutgers University to provide training.
