  • **Rate does not meet National Center for Health Statistics standards of statistically reliability for presentation (RSE >=23% and n<20).

Why Is This Important?

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) and ESRD result in poor quality of life and premature death. ESRD is very costly to treat, such that nearly 25% of the Medicare budget is used to treat people with CKD and ESRD. Diabetes is the most common cause of kidney failure.1

Definition

Deaths with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) as the underlying cause of death ICD-10 code: N18.0 (1999-2010), N18.5 (2011 and after)

Data Notes

  • Data have been age-adjusted to the U.S. 2000 standard population.
  • Data for White, Black, and Asian do not include Hispanics. Hispanic ethnicity includes persons of any race.

This is Healthy New Jersey 2020 (HNJ2020) Objective CKD-4.
