For deaths, Underlying Cause of Death uses data files comparable to those used in the NJSHAD Mortality query.

Pre-1999 cause of death data coded under ICD-8 or ICD-9 are not directly
comparable to data coded under ICD-10. This does not affect comparability of other variables across years.
